3 / Vol 13, 2014 Sourcing Bali News

Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of 2014, I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for your support throughout the year.

This year was particularly special, having made the decision in 2013 to downsize the company, and focus on our core business of sourcing furniture for hotels, resorts, resturants, selected retail customers as well as sourcing for luxury homes and villas.   This decision proved to be the right one.

We have exceeded our financial goals for the year and we have all enjoyed working in a smaller, more compact, more harmonious group.  The team is just 14 strong and the entire crew is committed to our ongoing and shared success.

We have worked on many WONDERFUL projects throughout the year, and it has been a pleasure to work with you.  In this edition of Sourcing Bali news, I bring you the latest updates on our projects, our suppliers, regulations and happenings in Bali.

As always, if ever you have any questions about our services, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Warmest regards,

Desmond & Crew

New Designs - new suppliers

We work hard to ensure that we are informed of new suppliers and products to hit the market in Bali. One such recent newcomer is K2 Rope Furniture.

This smart new business creates some exciting and trendy designs for indoor and outdoor use from iron, aluminium, stainless steel, wooden frames combined with polyester twine, each in a range of wild, trendy and hip colours.

The diversity of these designs is impressive and custom orders are welcome.  A choice of indoor or outdoor  materials are available.  We've just started working with this company and already we've had lots of interest from  our customers all over the world.  We look forward to sharing further details of orders from them soon.

New Projects

We were very proud to have been chosen to assist with the supply of custom lighting and joinery for the well known HYDRO MAJESTIC HOTEL in the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney.

News of this immaculate renovation made headlines across Australia at the unveiling of it's stunng Art Deco / and Art Nouvea style. The Hotel was originally built in the early part of the 20th century and was the permier vacation spot for Sydney's High Society at that time.

The new design pays homage to the orginal style of this elegant and once famous venue -  it's dining rooms, reception rooms, lobby and tea rooms are outstanding.

Lighting included high gloss black lacquer chandelier over 5 metres in drop, solid cast brass table lanterns, glazed ceramic bases with Chinese Silk shades, and beautiful stainless steel celing lights in the P&O style.

This was a personal favourite of mine, and it was a pleasure to create such stunning designs.

Zanzibar - Blue Bay Hotel

We were approached earlier this year to assist with a remodeling of an existing, older property on the resort island of Zanizibar.

For many months, we worked tirelessly to complete the large orders of indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, pots, and decorative peices.  it was a lot of fun to be working with the designers and the hotel owners directly to create this fun, bright, interesting design.

We've just received pics of the completed project and we love the results - more importantly, the owners do too.  We look forward to completing more of their hotel projects in Zanzibar in the coming year.

Traditional Carving - Modern Designs

We are often asked to assist with the production / supply of traditional stone carvings from Bali to be shipped all over the world.

Two recent orders were for two very large feature walls - one to be shipped to a residential project in Miami Florida, and the other for a Royal Palace in Saudi Arabia.

These beautiful stone carvings are all made by hand, customised to specific size and scale and then dismantled, crated, numbered and shipped to their destinations. The feedback from the clients has been tremendous and further orders will surely follow.

For details on how you can order your custom stone carved wall, please email us at pipin@sourcing-bali.com

Customer Feedback

We work hard to ensure our customer's satisfaction with everything that we do.  Often forming long term friendships with our customers after many months of working together to help create their beautiful home interiors.

Our customers often email us with kind words of thanks - here are just a few of them...

"Thank you for your assistance with the refurbishment of the Hydro Majestic. The property was officially unveilled yesterday by the NSW Premier, Mike Baird to much fan fare.
After 110 years since first opening and 6 years in the planning and refurbishment phase, the Hydro Majestic re-opened today."

"We have placed all our new articles in our house and love them all.  Thankyou so very much for your diligence, professionalism and eye for detail – everything that you sourced for us is perfect. We appreciate all your hard work." -- Dean & Marcela

"Thank you for the excellent service you provided. We are very pleased with the outcome. We will review the sheet over the next couple of days and come back to you soon." -- Simon Dunmore

"The team have been great and are still helping me from afar. What a wonderful company you have. Thanks for everything." -- John Caldwell

"Sorry for the late mail, but the furniture arrived savely at our place, and they are looking great, we are very happy! Please tell also Mr. Black! Unfortunately, the construction of our house takes much longer than expected, so the furniture is currently stored in one room waiting for house completion. If everything goes fine, we can place them next years in spring time.Once done, we will send you nice photos of course! -- Axel Kresse

Fuel Increases - November 2014

Our new President recently brought in the very difficult regulations regarding FUEL subsidies.  This reduction in Government funded subsidies saw an increase in fuel prices from Rp6.500 per litre to Rp8.500 - an increase of nearly 30%.

This has in turn caused an increase in production costs, transportation etc.  Orders that are already in production are secure, however any new orders are already seeing an increase of 5-10% across the board.

Whilst the increase is difficult for many, it does mean that the Government can use these funds for infrastructure projects, improve social services, hospitals, etc.  We fully Support our new President in this difficult task ahead.

Our New Home....

It's been 10 years already since we moved into our offices at Jalan Gunung Salak, Kerobokan.   Unfortunately, the lease is up and the landlord is not extended it... this means that we have to move and so we shall.

Works are already underway for the new offices -which will be in a renovated, 90 year old, Javanese style solid teak house called a JOGLO.   The timber construction was disassembled in Java, trucked to Bali and is being re-assembled. The floors will be hand made traditional cement tiles, with exposed brick and glass detailing.

We've also built an adjoining room for stocks / displays - and we're planning a great outdoor dining area for the crew, complete with a stunning new garden - it's exciting and we're looking forward to the change.  If everything goes to plan, we should be in our new home in February, 2015.

We look forward to bringing you further updates.

December - Holidays

The month of December will be a busy time for us in Bali.  In addition to completing the last of the orders for the year, we will be celebating Galungan and Kuningan, and Christmas.

We take this opportunity to wish our Hindu friends and family "Selamat Hari Raya Galungan dan Kuningan" -The Hindu ceremony which celebrates the conquering of good over evill, a time to give thanks, to share with family and friends and pay respect to god for the goodness in our lives.
For our Christian friends, we say Merry Christmas, and to all we say HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015.

Our offices will be closed:

17, 18, 24, 25, 26, 27 December, and 1st January.

Community Service

We believe in the importance of Community Service and as part of our ongoing committment, we once again paid a visit to the Old People's home in Ketewel to present them with DVD Players, DVD's,  new kitchen utensils, cooking equipment, cakes, biscuits, medicines, balsams, toiletries etc.

It's lovely to just sit and share a joke, hold their hand and help to make their day a little bit brighter.. We visit every two months and we look forward to seeing them each time we go.

In addition, Sourcing Bali is once again contributing to TWO major events being held in Bali this week in conjunction with WORLD AIDS DAY.  A Beach Walk on  Sunday to help raise awareness to the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Bali, and a Charity event on Monday 1st December to help raise funding for Positive Patients in the LGBT community.

New Stone Regulations

We recently brought you news of the changes to the export regulations pertaining to stone, marble, etc.    There are now NEW changes to this regulation which enforces restrictions on raw materials such as pebbles, stone carvings (relief) and tiles.

At present the rules make it impossible to export these materials from Bali - since Bali is not the source of the stone and no exporter has the credentials to enable them to be a 'source' .  it is a very difficult situation, and for the moment, one without any solution in sight.

There are several associations which are lobbying the government to have the eased / or to allow for licencing to be available in Bali, but so far to no avail.

We will keep you updated on progress if we have it.
